Pennsylvania Among 17 States Turning Over High-Risk Insurance Pool Responsibility To Feds

Pennsylvania and 16 other states are handing over their special insurance programs for people with pre-existing health conditions to the federal government Monday.

In Addition To Premium Credits, Health Law Offers Some Consumers Help Paying Deductibles and Co-Pays

When people talk about health insurance affordability, they typically focus on premiums, the sticker price for a policy. For the plans being sold through the online health insurance marketplaces next year, much of the discussion has been on tax credits that can reduce the monthly premium for people with incomes up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level ($94,200 for a family of four in 2013).

Last week the Obama administration announced the next phase of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy: the HIV Care Continuum Initiative, which directs federal agencies to address the so-called "treatment cascade" by taking steps to increase testing, services and treatment for PLWHA and make it easier to obtain all three HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and presidential senior advisor Valerie Jarret report.

How the ACA Will Affect People Living With HIV/AIDS: Advocacy to Ensure Full Implementation of the ACA

The last in a series that examines the Affordable Care Act's impact on people living with HIV/AIDS.

With so many critical decisions now in the hands of the states, state-level advocacy is vital to maximize the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) benefits for PLWHA. And given that Black people living with HIV are currently most likely to fall through the cracks of our health-care system, Black advocates need to play a pivotal role in state-level advocacy.
